Creed 2 Delivers!
Move over Denzel Washington, there is a new leading man in town and his name is Michael B Jordan!
After the breakout success of his role as T’Challa in Black Panther, Michael B Jordan solidifies his status as the IT guy in Hollywood with his role in Creed 2. In the new film, MBJ reprises his role as slain boxer, Apollo Creed‘s illegitimate son, Adonis. Picking up where the first film left off, Adonis returns to capture what he was unable to accomplish in Creed – the Heavyweight championship. Standing in opposition of his quest for the title is a lethal man-eating machine who is the son of Ivan Drago, the man who killed Adonis’s father. I won’t give any spoilers, but I will say that Creed 2 is everything that built the Rocky franchise into a Hollywood juggernaut- a cinematic orgy of testosterone and romance.
Creed 2 does everything right. In the film, Michael B. Jordan is shredded like an action figure, and when he appears on screen you believe he is a boxer. His adversary Drago looks even more menacing. However, beneath the parade of masculinity is a love story about a couple adjusting to fame and success while balancing a high-profile romance. There are also points of subtle nostalgia written into the film that tugs at the heartstrings and memories of die-hard Rocky fans.
Creed 2 is a cinematic masterpiece, and with Executive Producer credits going to both Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan, another feather in Black Hollywood’s expanding cap. This film shows that Michael B. Jordan is no longer just an actor on the come up. He has arrived! With the versatility of a superhero, and a boxer, and a ladies’ man, MBJ is leading the charge on the new Hollywood. If you haven’t seen thisfilm yet, trust us, it’s worth it.
